The Sherpa Above the Rest

Updated: Dec 27, 2019

I live in Wisconsin, where cozy, warm apparel is essential. In fact, our temps are frigid this week, so I NEED clothing that keeps me warm, yet is also super comfortable AND makes me feel put together.

Sherpas are always at the top of my list in winter, but they are a dime a dozen and definitely NOT created equal. I have never met a sherpa that wasn’t cozy and soft, but I have to be real that sherpas are rarely flattering. Not only that, but many sherpas shock you (literally!) because of the fabrication used. I don’t know about you, but I really don’t want to be walking around feeling like my clothing adds twenty pounds, plus I could get zinged at any moment!

I have done a fair amount of sherpa research this season, from trying on many (like twenty plus just at Target alone!) at various stores, to scouring the internet and reading reviews, to hunting down some that my favorite bloggers have shared. And, my results are in!

Hands down, my favorite by FAR (that I happened to come across via an Instagram ad tracking my crazy Sherpa research) is the following from Amazon:

You guys - you need this top. Not only is it ONLY $23.99, but it is simply amazing and I never want to take mine off. I already own two - the Buffalo Plaid version and the Navy/Olive version - and I am debating which color option will be the next added to my collection. Here is why it checks all of my boxes and I think it is the best Sherpa on the market, even regardless of its insanely low price:

✔️ It is sherpa all the way through - the majority of sherpas available have a lining on the inside that can oftentimes be scratchy. That means they really are only sherpa material on the outside, but this pullover is sherpa all the way through, making it SO cozy and snuggly to wear! I'm not joking when I say that I could live in these daily.

✔️ It is super chic. The buttons on the collar (that can be snapped all the way up to keep your neck warm), the detailing on the chest and hem line, and the wrist cuffs enhance the look of this top. Yes, it is casual, but it has a preppy vibe to it that makes it appropriate for many different occasions, whether it’s lounging on the couch to brunch with friends to date night.

✔️ It washes really well. I strongly recommend washing and then hang drying, which I do with most of my nicer clothing anyway. If you hang dry, it will maintain the original softness (if you’ve ever had a sherpa blanket that you wash regularly, over time, it will lose some of the softness and true sherpa feel if you dry in a dryer).

✔️ It is flattering, which is incredibly rare for a sherpa. Yes, it is a little bulkier than your average top, but not where I feel like it adds any weight to me when I look in the mirror, plus I receive compliments on these every.single.time I leave the house. No joke, I have shared the link to this top while in line at our local Post Office, Target, AND at my daughter's dance studio. I am certain that people wouldn't randomly stop me to ask where they can get my top if I looked like a linebacker in it :)

I did go true to size in this top, but if you want more of a loose fit, size up. It does come in vacuum sealed packaging so it will surprise you by how much it expands once you open up the package!

Get at least one - and while you're at it, grab one for a special person in your life since this would make a great and affordable holiday gift. You won't regret it and may even go back for more like me!
