Family traditions are so incredibly important to me. They were such a huge part of my childhood within my immediate and extended family, and I knew that once I had my own family, I wanted to start some traditions that my kids would value, take comfort in, and remember their entire lives.
My husband, Mike, and I have started many traditions over the years that I just love, and our kids look forward to year after year. We have some bigger traditions that we adhere to each year, but I am always trying to think up little things to incorporate into our lives around each holiday that will have a special significance to our kiddos and will be something they look forward to continually. These are usually super inexpensive things, but they are memorable to my kids.
Any of you who follow me on social media know that I have a coffee mug addiction. I have an extensive collection because they just make me happy - the mug I choose in the morning to have my first sip of coffee can set the tone for my whole day (I don’t think my hubby gets it, but he knows it is a losing battle since more mugs keep showing up...)
That said, the instant I spied this year’s holiday mug collection from Target, I knew the retro Santa mug had to be mine. Not only is it retro chic and reminds me of the decor that my Grandma Mary had all over my grandparent’s house at the holidays, but it just makes me smile and screamed new tradition to me. My mind instantly flashed to picturing my kids around our table, this year and for many years to come, sipping hot chocolate together out of these mugs and remembering all of the good times we have had together over the years.
I jumped on these, especially because they are only $4.99 each. $25 for a set of five that my family can use year after year at the holidays is a small investment - and as a mug connoisseur, these are worth $4.99 and then some because they are heavy duty and well constructed. My four year old can even grip the handle easily and the weight is distributed nicely so he won’t spill (this is a big endorsement since we’ve had a lot of spilled cups with that one...)
Since purchasing these, my kiddos have daily come home from school asking if we could sit together and have hot chocolate. I’d already call that a win - and I can only imagine the conversations we will have together over the years while sipping hot chocolate (and I’m sure eventually coffee) out of our Santa mugs. (And side note, the Santa’s have already had plenty of their own amusing conversations courtesy of my children :-))
I did choose to order online and pick up in store (which turned out to be an excellent decision since my store had them packed nicely in boxes for me that I can use to store them after the holidays!), and the Target employees at pick up shared that this design has been the most popular holiday mug thus far and they are having a hard time keeping them in stock. Just something to note because I would hate for you to miss out on these!
I hope you can incorporate these into your own traditions, or even just grab one for your morning coffee - it is sure to bring a smile to your face!
